Citrus production in Grenada: an overview

This article explains to agronomic problems associated with citrus production there is a very serious and widespread ocurrence of praedial larceny. Recent increased demand for citrus fruits (especially orange and mandarin), has led to an escalation of the praedial larceny problem which forces citrus farmers to harvest fruits prematurely. Consequently, locally produced citrus fruits are generally of poor quality (in terms of Brix/Acid ratio) and, despite the different (early, mid and late maturing) varieties cultivated, there is the perennial phenomeno of glut followed by acute shortage in the domestic market
