Lime-zinc interactions in coffee (Coffea arabica L.) seedlings
In a laboratory trial addition of CaCO3 at the rate of 2.5 to 20.0 tonnes/ha significantly raised the soil pH with simultaneous decreases in DTPA - extractable Zn. Increases in exchangeable Ca, consequent to liming resulted in higher leaf Ca, in Coffea arabica seedlings grown on differentially-limed soils. Application of lime, boosted the growth of seedlings inspite of decreasing extractable Zn, possibly due to the nutritional effect of Ca in promoting abundant root growth. Leaf Zn was not altered appreciably by liming
