How important is phosphate for coffee

Though phosphorus is a major nutrient element, reports on chemical analyses of coffee leaves showed that the concentration of P was very low compared to other major nutrients, N and K. Crop removal studies reported in India and elsewhere revealed that the quantum of P removed through cropping was very less. Further most of the experimental results on P usage in several coffee growing countries did not indicate any positive/significant response of mature coffee to P fertilisation. Hence, it is suggested that for mature coffee the rate of P application could be reduced appropriately based on soil and plant analysis
