Essais de fertilization minérale de caféiers arabica en production á Gatsinda et Kilemba et a Ruhororo et Maramvya (Province de Ngozi-Burundi)

At Gatsinda and Kilemba, annual applications of NPK Mg at 75-300 g N, 75-300 g P2O5, 37.5-150 g K2O and 15-60 g MgO per plant led to increases of 155-160 Kg parchment coffee/ha annually. At Ruhororo and Maramvya, on less suitable soil, better results were obtained with N alone than with complete fertilizer. With correct mulching (with Tripsacum sp., Pennisetum sp. and Setaria sp.) coffee requirements in P, K, Mg and Ca are usually met. It is therefore recommended that fertilization should be restricted to urea. In areas of high potential, 90-100 units N/year should be applied in 3 dressings to mulched coffee. In areas of moderate potential 70-80 units should be applied in the same way. (Hort. Abst. 57(1):825. 1987)
