The natural enemies of Icerya pattersoni (Newst) in a coffee estate

The population of Icerya pattersoni (Newst) (Homoptera:Margarodidae) was suppressed by several species of parasites and predators at Kitamayu Coffee Estate. The most numerous parasites were Silvestria near minor (silvestri), Tetrastichus sp and Cryptochetum sp. Predatory insects were mainly ladybird bettles, Scymnus sp which proved to be most promising in reducing I. pattersoni population. The Dicrodiplosis kimberleyensis (Harris) and Chrysoperla pudica (Navas) were other predators were also abundant. These numerous natural enemies integrated with other control strategies would combat the pest in an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programme
