Manual del caficultor: combate de la roya del cafeto

The origin of coffee rust (Hemileia vastatrix) spread, losses caused by this fungus, ways of recognition, cultural practices as a means to reduce losses, including pruning, regulating of the shade, the application of an adequate fertilizing programme and weed control measures are discussed. Recommended herbicides include Goal (oxyfluorfen), Gesatop (simazine), Karmex (diuron), paraquat and Round-up (glyphosate), which are applied in 550 l water/ha. Chemical control is done for instance, with copper compounds, and Cuprosan S.D (copper + maneb + zineb), as protective sprays or with the curative fungicides Bayleton (triadimefon), Tilt (halacrinate + captafol) and Sicarol (pyracarbolid), using 200 cm3 of spray liquid/coffee tree. Four to 5 rounds per season are recommended. This guide is well illustrated. (ATA v. 12(4):58230. 1986)
