Field performance of new copper formulations against coffee berry disease in Kenya
Four cupric chlorides (Microcop-50, Cuprocal, Funguran and Recop), one cuprous oxide (Copcel), and one cupric hydroxide (Parasol), all 50 WP, were tested for the control of coffee berry disease CBD during 1982/83 and 1983/84 coffee seasons. The results from two trial sites indicate that all the copper-based fungicides tested, at the application rate of 1.0 formulated product, gave CBD control comparable to that by captafol 80 WP (0.4). The yields realised from plots sprayed with all the copper formulations, except Parasol, at 1.0 were also comparable to yields from captafol sprayed plots. Parasol (1.0) sprayed plots gave lower yields than the captafol sprayed plots. Lower rates (0.7) of the same coppers also gave comparable control to captafol. Yields from plots sprayed with the lower rates were, in most cases, not significantly different from the yields from captafol sprayed plots. Cuprous oxide (copcel), and cupric chloride (microcop-50, Recop, Cuprocal and Funguran) have been recommended for CBD control in Kenya, while cupric hydroxide (parasol) is still undergoing evaluation
