Effect of pre-packaging treatments on the seed viability of Coffea arabica Linnaeus

Different packaging treatments namely, the use of containers with moss and polythene bags for seed storage were included in this experiment. Seed viability studies, after storing the seeds for 50, 100, 150, and 200 days, revealed that the germination decreased with increase in the storage period. Seeds stored in polythene bags with moss prolonged, the seed viability up to 200 days with maximum germination of 27 and maintained higher percentage of seed germination throughout the periods of storage. The moist moss helped to retain the optimum moisture content required for preserving the seed viability
