Some aspects of hormonal balance in coffee

The results of hormone research made so far in Kenya, in India and in other coffee growing countries indicate that as in the case of other fruit crops, endogenous growth regulatory substances like cytokinins, gibberellins, indoles and abscisins are present in coffee plants. These plant hormones appear to play extremely important roles in the regulation of annual vegetative and reproductive growths of the plant. The scope for obtaining beneficial effects by application of certain synthetic growth regulators i.e., 2, 4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2, 4-D), ethrel (2-chloroethane phosphonic acid) planofix (alphanaphtheleneacetic acid) and berelex (90 gibberellins) for agricultural economcy and crop production in coffee is enunciated
