Role of mechanical and cultural control measures in the integrated control of coffee pests

Integrated control of pests has been generally acknowledged as the ideal way to effectively manage pest numbers without giving rise to secondary problems. Successful implementation of integrated control is based on a sound knowledge of bionomics and climatic and biotic factors which influence pest numbers. This paper discusses the role of mechanical and cultural operations which enhance the utility of integrated control patterns on coffee plantations. These mecahanical and cultural control practices can be effectively dovetailed into the usual agronomical practices without extra costs to the grower
