Immortelle disease

An account is given of a disease of Immortelle trees new to Trinidad. The distribution, host-range and symptoms of the causal fungus Calostilbe striispora (Ell. & Ev.) Seaver are discussed. Experimental work was carried out in the field and in the laboratory and a detailed series of inoculations was made to determine the pathogenicity of the fungus on its various hosts under different conditions. Possible control methods including the regular replanting of shade trees are suggested.
