Beberapa tjatatan mengenai perkebunan bedji, guna Perkembangan budida Kelapa

Badji estate is a coconut estate which functions as a commercial estate as well as seed suplier for coconut growers. Facts and problems from the estate which could be taken for the use in establishing coconut plantation are methods of nuts harvesting, shade effects, system of rejuvenation, problems of cocoa plantation as an intercrop pruning of cocoa and pest control. Additional shading has among others the aim for biological control of lalang weeds, increase of organic matter on soil and minimizing of negative effects of sea wind. In evaluation of a suitable system of rejuvenation, one has to consider the economic aspects, where a reasonable income could be got from the old palms until the young palms bear fruits. System of gradual thinning out, where old palms were partly removed, gives a good effect on the old palms stand. Removal of old palms, choise of rejuvenation blocks and time of planting in accordance with the intercrop are problems to be solved in realization of rejuvenation programs. Agrotechnical as well as economical aspects must be considered in intercropping cocoa on a coconut plantation. Cocoa intercropping with a 3 x 3 m planting distance gives difficulties in harvesting of coconut. Cocoa intercropping is only of benefit if some conditions can be fulfilled, viz. efficacious plant distance, choise of blocks which are suitable to the conditions and age of the main crop, homogenity of the cocoa clones, methods of cocoa pruning and protection.
