Optimum size of plots in cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.)
A slight modification of Shrikande's method of plot formation aimed at increasing the within plot variation and thus decreasing the between plot variation was proposed. The co-efficient of variation of yield was calculated for different sizes of plots and blocks. CV decreased with increase in plot size. Two models were fitted for CV against plot size. Optimum size of plot was determined by the method of maximum curvature using the better fitting model. Four tree plots were found optimum for blocks of different sizes.
