Plantas indesejáveis em cacauais de idades diferentes na área do Centro de Pesquisas do Cacau (CEPEC) Bahia, Brasil

Comparative studies on the herbacious vegetation under cacao trees of two different ages, throught a transet method, showed that the Monocot represent nearly 50 percent of the soil cover in the both areas. Paspalum conjugatum (papua) was the most common species in both areas followed by Commelia diffusa (marianinha) in new cacao plantations (i.e. +- 9 years old) and Setaria poiretiana (canoao) in the old one (i.e. +- 60 years old). Diversity indexes showed that, in the old plantation, the most common species were not dominant in relation to the less common species, while the opposite occurred in the new plantation.
