Study on the influence of traffic density on cocoa yields (Theobroma cacao L.), 1: Orientation on the influence of traffic business on the number of cocoa pods per tree

The cocoa crop is ultimately limited by the amount of effective pollination and the fruit set that occur. Insects pollinator, Forcipomyia spp. (Diptera, Ceratopogonidae) was observed to be the main vector in natural pollination of cocoa flower. Their activity was influenced by the climate and the environment. This observation concluded that the distance of cocoa trees from a busy road had an exponential influence on the number of cocoa pods per tree. The regression equation of the influence of this distance from the road on cocoa pod number per tree was Y = 13.64 exponent 0.50 (r = 0.84 exponent **). It was thought that a busy traffic had an adverse effect on the pollinator insect; noise drove away the cocoa flower pollinator.
