Emprego de arboricidas no raleamento de sombra em cacauais
The effect of Tordon 101 (salts of 2,4-dichlorophenoxacetic acid and 4-amino-3,5,6-trichloropicolinic acid) was compared with that of sodium arsenite in eliminating shade trees in the cacao region of Bahia. Tordon 101 (50 per cent) applied with a commercial tree injector at the rate of 1 ml per 5, 10 and 20 cm of trunk circunference presented a herbicidal efficiency of 76, 71 and 57 per cent respectivelly. Sodium arsenite (20 per cent) applied in cuts on the trunks following regional practice only achieved a 65 per cent efficiency. It is concluded that the injection of Tordon 101, at a 50 per cent concentration, and at 10 cm intervals around the trunk, is the indicated treatment for shade thinning in Bahian cacao plantations
