Preliminary studies on the timing of insecticide application to control the capsid Sahlbergella singularis Hagl. on cacao in Nigeria: the effect of spraying in April and May when the capsid population is low
Schedules of insecticide application for the control of cacao capsids in Nigeria and Ghana are discussed. The programmes are related to the population changes of the insects. This paper reports attempts to spray against capsids when the population is lowest, i.e. in April and May. Using two insecticides namely "Gammalin 20" and "Arkotine 25" at 0.25 percent and 1.25 percent concentrations respectively, the rapid build up in capsid numbers was delayed and the level and peak of population in the unsprayed plots was over twice those in the sprayed plots
