Etude des sols dans le cadre de la regeneration cacaoyer en Cote d'Ivoire

In the operation "Regeneration of cocoa trees" in the Ivory Coast the SATMACI has a number of soil survey officers (assistants), whose training is entrusted to the I.F.C.C. These assistants carry out profile excavations (1 excavation/ha) of one metre deep on all farms and describe the horizons of 0/20 cm-30/50 cm-60/80 cm and 90/100 cm. The description includes colour, texture, horizon differentiation, nature of the parent rock, depth of the surface sandy horizon (less than 20 percent clay), and the presence or absence of a sinter horizon and its importance. It is then possible to define the type of soil for each plantation and to determine its class according to its suitability for cocoa. This classification is based solely on the physical properties of the soil
