El virus rayado fino del maíz en Venezuela [Zea mays].

Maize rayado fino virus (MRFV) was isolated in Venezuela from plants showing dwarfing and parallel leaf stripes along the veins. The virus particles are isometric with 33 um in diameter and became separated in two bands by sucrose density gradient which indicates that there are differences in their nucleic acid content. The virus reacted positively against antisera prepared with MRFV from Costa Rica and virus of the maize rayado fino colombiano (MRFCV] from Colombia. Dalbulus maidis transmitted the virus in a persistent fashion. However, Peregrinus maidis was unable to transmit the disease. Virus particles were found in the cytoplasm and vacuole in sections of the infected cells. The disease seems to be prevalent at an altitude of 400 m in Venezuela in contrast with Costa Rica and Colombia where the disease has been observed over the 1.000 m.
