Dalbergia cubilquitzensis (D. Smith) Pittier, una nueva especie forestal para los trópicos

In 1939 the Department of Forest Sciences of the Tropical Agricultural Research and Training Center (CATIE), in Turrialba, Costa Rica, established experimental plantation of some valuable forest tree species in the “Premontane West Forest” and Tropical Wet Forest” life zones of Holdridge"s ecological life zone system. This paper deals with ecological observations on one of these species, Dalbergia cubilquitzensis (D Smith) Pittier Climatic and edaphic factors are related 10 some mensurational variables to establish associations between them. The following relationships were analyzed diameter beartwood, dbb /total and commercial heights dbb/ crown diameter, number of stems per tree/ commercial volume with bark (m2), dbb without bark/dbh with bark. The following characteristics were also calculated commercial volume with bark (m2), percentage of bark volume, plant mortality mean annual grouth rings. The tree variables studied included dbh, beatwood, total and commercial heights, crown diameter, commercial branches, bark thickness and number of stems per tree. The site factors measured included, altitude, precipitation. average temperature, and soil capacity for plant production.
