Global monitoring and biosphere reserves

This paper reiterates basic concerns with the environment, argues that dealing with data is the key to successful management, outlines briefly the functioning of the Global Environment Monitoring System (GEMS) and its plans for a Global Resource Information Database (GRID), and finally describes data problem areas which monitoring in biosphere reserves may help to alleviate.
