Imaging with photographic and nonphotographic sensor systems

A fundamental prerequisite to interpreting information from remote sensing data is an understanding of the processes affecting the recording and display (imagery) of electromagnetic energy. It is difficult to condense and simplify the necessary explanations, but an attempt has been made in this chapter for the sake of beginning students. The organization of the chapter encompases a discussion of (1) the factors involved in image formation, (2) sensor systems, and (3) collection, processing, and presentation of remote sensing data. A glossary of important remote sensing terminology appears as Appendix I
