A survey on the etiology, the prevalence, the pathogenesis and treatment of caseous lymphadenitis in goats in the U.S.A. was conducted. The conclusions are that caseous lymphadenitis is widespread in the U.S., that it was uncommon in goats under 6 months age, its prevalence peaked at 4 years and there seemed to be no particular decline with age, i.e. no naturally acquired immunity. Most lesions occur in the neck and there was no particular sex distribution. The most common organism isolated from the lesions was Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis, which is sensitive in vitro to a large number of antibiotics. Recommendations for control of this disease are given
