Distribuicao e prevalencia da brucelose em búfalos no estado do Pará

Serum samples from 3613 buffaloes of both the sexes of different ages, from different regions of the state of Para were analyzed through rapid plate agglutination test. Of the samples examined, 2320 were from the vaccinated animals and the rest from unvaccinated ones. The prevalence of the positive reactors varied between 5.7 per cent (region of Belem), 8.0 per cent (Low amazon river region) and 12.2 per cent (Marajo island). The vaccination against brucellosis produced immunity at the rate of about 98.5 per cent in the animals. The nonvaccinated and vaccinated animals (considered negative) produced titres until 1:25 and 1:50, respectively. The clinical symptoms diagnosed in the buffalo with brucellosis included abortion (6 cases), retained placenta (5 cases), mucupurulent endometritis (2 cases) and articular higroma (1 case)
