Combined use of pesticides and its biological effects in rice insect and disease control

The simultaneous application of pesticide mixtures is a promising approach to effectively control pest that often occur simultaneously. A mixture of either insecticides or insecticide-fungicide may give the best control of insect pest and disease complexes with varying susceptibilities to the different chemical components. Results of a series of studies conducted to evaluate the compatibility of pesticide mixtures and their effect on the brown and green leafhoppers revealed the following: 1) the green leafhopper appeared to be considerably tolerant to some of the insecticides tested, noticeable methyl parathion, kival and hokbal; 2) the occurrence and resistance of field populations of GLH have substantially decreased and remained rather steady against the frequently used insecticides; 3) of the insecticide combinations used to control GLH, azodrin + ethyl parathion, WPC + malathion, azodrin + methyl parathion and azodrin + furadan exhibited synergistic toxicity; 4) chemical mixtures that exhibited synergistic effects on the BPH were MIPC + unden, orthene + unden hokbal + MIPC, hokbal + orthene, furadan + MIPC and MIPC + orthene, in decreasing order of co-toxicity coefficients. The paper also includes a discussion of the mortality response of BPH and GLH, as well as the fungitoxicity response of shealth blight and blast fungi to these mistures
