Adoption and use of improved maize seed by small farmers in southeast Guatemala

The Republic of Guatemala, with almost 800.000 hectars cultivated with maize and a total maize production of 1.4 million metric tons, is the largest producer of maize in Central America. Guatemala produces 42 of the total maize in the region. The importance of this crop in the Guatemalan economy is shown by the fact that the value of the maize production represents approximately 10 of the total value of the national agricultural production
