Some considerations concerning fruit production in Ha´ti

Three are commercial orchards in Haiti. Fruit production is part of an intercropping system, where the trees are planted in association with annual crops and forest trees. Altogether it is thought that 16 percent of the cultivated land is planted with fruits. The most popular are citrus and mangoe. The latter are exported to the US (cv. 'Madame Francis') and it is considered that there is a bright future for this crop. The fruit sub-sector is hampered by the lack of governmental support and the lack of basic infrastructure.(MIBA)
