Agricultural policies in developing countries: national and international aspects. Discussion documents

The aim of this paper is to provide a broad and indicative review of policy trends in agriculture in developing countries. The paper refers to the policy paradigm in developing countries that highlights the main elements of the policy environment that must be examined as follows: a) general development strategies and macroeconomic policies; b) taxation of farm outputs and farm input subsidy programs; and, c) special public interventions in marketing. Another point is the economic strategies and macroeconomic policies and the importance of real exchange rate movements for agricultural production and exports. Sectoral policies, issues in taxation and subsidies, and finally, international aspects are refered to. (MIBA)
