Suriname Significant achievements 2022

IICA has provided technical assistance to Suriname for several projects aimed at improving agriculture production and technology. These projects include the establishment of plant nurseries equipped with automated irrigation systems for fruit trees, the construction of low-cost solar dryers for local dried salt fish production, and the creation of vegetable gardens in primary schools and a youth education cente; It has provided training to farmers and agroprocessors on plant nursery management and food safety standards; It supported initiatives to establish large-scale agroforestry demonstration plots, revitalize the local coconut industry, and assist female-owned agri-businesses and farmer organizations in formulating business plans for access to microfinancing; It conducted visits with the Suriname Minister of Agriculture to successful agricultural models in Costa Rica and provided technical assistance to the Ministry's Agricultural Competitiveness and Sustainable Agricultural Productivity Programs.
