Observations on the natural history of larvae of Hylesia continua alinda Druce (Saturniidae: Hemileucinae) in Coronado, Costa Rica
The biology of a group of major than 100 larvae of Hylesia continua alinda [H. alinda] was observed on an individual tree of Psidium friedrichsthalianum in Costa Rica during September-November 1990. Larvae were gregarious during the early stages and rested at the base of the tree during the day. At sunset, they climbed to the tree top to feed on new shoots, returning to the tree base at dawn. Three species of endoparasitoids (2 tachinids and a braconid) were obtained from larvae.
