Milk production and fat percentage test in four lots of goats with different diets
The following diets were developed and tested using 4 groups of lactating does. (1) 16 percent protein concentrates, alfalfa hay, green alfalfa, minerals, acid molasses, bran and salts; (2) Rhuizache Fruit (Acacia farnesiana), green alfalfa, molasses and bran, minerals, salts, acid; (3) Ruamuchil Fruit (sweet Pithecolobium) dried and green foliage of the plant, molasses, minerals, salts; (4) 14 percent concentrate, dried alfalfa hay, green alfalfa, molasses and bran, minerals, salts. The concentrate and the dried fruits were provided based on 0.300 kgs per litter of milk; the fodder and mineral salts are provided ad lib. Melazine (50 percent sugar cane molasses and 50 percent wheat bran) was used for the 16 percent concentrate. At the end of the milk production test, a decrease of 19.4, 30.1, 27.2 and 23.6 percent was shown; in fat production, an increase of 2.5, 9.6, 12.5 and 3.4 percent, respectively, was shown. The sweet Pithocolobium dried did not present any digestive problems and kept the goats in excellent condition; therefore, it was recommended to extend the investigation in order to reassert its efficiency and to promote its use in mild or semi-warm zones on line-sandy oil with good drainage, 0-1500 meters altitude, where the irrigation land is scarce for cultivation of alfalfa
