Peach palm grows in neotropical humid forests having rainfalls of 2500 mm or more and minimum temperatures of 24{eth}C. It is sparsely distributed; and is associated with mycorrhiza, which allows it to grow in a variety of soils. It has a large gene pool reserve in the wild relatives with allogamous sexual reproduction systems. Cultivated palms grow best on fertile soils that are slightly on the heavy side, with rainfalls of over 2000mm and good drainage. It also grows well under aerial irrigation, even in dry climates, with temperatures of 24{eth}C and above.
