Vocal activity of Amazonian Motmot (Momotus momota) in Yungas piedmont forest of the Calilegua National Park
Birds vocalizations may be conditioned by behavioral and climatic factors and could be modulated by climatic conditions. In this work, we studied the daily and sea-sonal patterns of vocal activity of the Amazonian Motmot (Momotus momota) in the Calilegua National Park, northwest Argentina. We used an automated recorder to record the vocalizations of this species during a complete annual cycle (September 2017 to August 2018). A total of 50 vocalizations were recorded; December was the month with the highest vocal activity, mainly at dawn and on days without rain.Vocalizations performed before dawn were influenced by lunar illumination. Our results help to understand the daily and seasonal patterns of vocalization for thisspecies, and show that vocal activity would be related to communication between individuals during the early hours of the day.
