Lipoid pneumonia and e-cigarette vaping

Abstract The increase in the use of electronic cigarettes has led to the recent identification of several types of lung damage, among which lipoid pneumonia stands out, characterized by the presence of lipids in the alveoli. Due to its non-specific clinical presentation and poor characterization of its natural history, its diagnosis is often overlooked or delayed. Accurate diagnosis requires a high index of suspicion, which implies knowledge of this disease and its radiological manifestations, to subsequently confirm it by demonstrating lipid-laden macrophages in samples of lung lesions. The objective of this article is to present the clinical case of a patient with exogenous lipoid pneumonia associated with the use of electronic cigarettes. With knowledge of this disease and its radiological characteristics, it is expected to improve its diagnosis and management, which will lead to better results for patients.
