Mechanical thrombectomy in children: A little known and scarcely utilized resource

Abstract Mechanical thrombectomy (MT) in children with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and large vessel occlusion is a feasible treatment modality. However, the published experience is limited to case reports and small case series that yield a low grade of evidence. In this narrative review, we summarize the published literature regarding the topic of MT in pediatric patients with AIS. We conclude that MT is a powerful tool that all clinicians need to keep in mind when treating pediatric patients under suspicion of AIS. We hope that the present manuscript aids in increasing awareness about this critical topic.
