Report to the CSD on the ECA programme for promoting biotechnology in Africa
This paper focuses on the report to the CSD on the ECA programme for promoting biotechnology in Africa. This report is produced as a background document for the fourth meeting of the Committee on Sustainable Development (CSD-4), in conformity with the approved work programme of the Division of Sustainable Development (SDD) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) for the biennium 2004-2005. Its objective is a review of the ECA programme for the promotion of biotechnology in Africa so as to inform the CSD-4 meeting of the Commission's efforts in this regard and to generate, among African policy decision makers, the interest to address the challenges and take advantage of the great opportunities associated with the development, acquisition and application of the tool.
