Partners Meeting on Fisheries Strategy for the ESA-IO Region

The SmartFish Programme has, as its main objective, to support the implementation of a regional fisheries strategy for the ESA-IO region. This is based on the strategies of IOC and other regional bodies, as well as related documentation such as the specific ‘fisheries chapter’ endorsed by other RECs within the framework of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) negotiations. Efforts have also been deployed over the last two years by the AU-NEPAD which will lead to the adoption of an overall se ctoral strategy for the sustainable development of fisheries and aquaculture in Africa, which is called the Comprehensive African Fisheries Reform (CAFRS).
