Wood durability issues and research in France

France has strong programs in promoting greater use of wood in structures. Currently only 10% of all building materials are wood-based, but a new program is in place to increase that to 25%. One issue that has to be addressed is wood durability. The objectives of this paper are to provide an overview of wood durability issues and research in France and approaches being taken. Preservation research programs in government, industry and universities will be discussed.
