Gum to keep desert in place

The US Agency for International Development (USAID), the American Soft Drink Association and the Importer Services Corporation (ISC) have signed an agreement with various states in northern Nigeria to expand the production of Arabic gum (Acacia). USAID will invest 7 million US$ (EUR 7,95 million) to expand the area under gum cultivation by 500,000 hectares a year. ISC agreed to buy the region s entire gum production.
