Announcements by radio

The radio helped us solve a real problem we d been having in the village. When someone died, it was almost impossible to get in touch and tell relatives, living in villages which are maybe 30 to 40 kilometres away, so that they could come to the funeral. We had to hire a bicycle or a horse to make the journey in person. If we couldn t do this and so couldn t tell people in time, it had serious consequences for relationships between people in the villages, sometimes even leading to splits between families. Now that we have Radio Cesiri, we just pay 500 francs (0,76 t) and everyone gets the news. Now no-one can be upset, thank God.' a listener to Radio Cesiri in the rice-growing area of Mali
