Common interest groups: The power of connection

For the Livestock Livelihoods and Agri-food Systems Flagship, the ‘Livestock-led interventions towards equitable livelihoods and improved environment in the Northwest Highlands of Vietnam’ or Li-chăn project established five common interest groups (CIGs), with more than 60 beneficiary households in the Chieng Chung and Chieng Luong communes. Some groups operate using part of the common fund to lend credit to their members for livestock production investment. The model will be further strengthened and expanded under the coming CGIAR initiative on ‘Sustainable Animal Productivity for Livelihoods, Nutrition and Gender inclusion’ (SAPLING) for 2022-2024. After two and half years of implementation (2019–2021), the project has resulted in agricultural system transformation in selected sites in northwest Vietnam.
