The fisheries sector of The Gambia has enormous potentials to contribute towards national socio-economic development. The country is blessed with considerable marine and river fisheries resources whose rational exploitation and utilisation can yield significant benefits to the people and Government. The realisation of the full potentials of fisheries will translate into self-sufficiency in fish production (with surplus for export); employment opportunities for nationals, infrastructure development and substantial revenue and foreign exchange generation through export.
