Pseudomonas fluorescens Q8r1-96 genome sequencing
bacterial cells grown in pure culture. Pseudomonas fluorescens Q8r1-96 was isolated in 1996 from roots of wheat grown in an agricultural field near Quincy, Washington, USA (DOI: 10.1094/MPMI.1998.11.2.144). The strain colonizes the rhizosphere of wheat and barley and suppresses a plant disease called take-all of wheat, which is caused by the root-infecting fungus Gaeumannomyces graminis var. tritici (PMID:12147763). Strain Q8r1-96 is a superior rhizosphere colonist and contributes to natural processes of biological control observed in plant-disease suppressive soils.
