Efficacy testing of coffee parchments demucilaging cum-washing machines
Two models of demucilaging cum washing mechanisms, namely; auger type and brush type were developed and evaluated with Arabica and Robusta parchments. In the auger type, the highest washing efficiencies of 84.9 and 95.3 percent were achieved for Arabica and Robusta, respectively, at 40 rpm auger speed, 200 kg/hr feed rate and 0.44 l/s water flow rate. The highest washing efficiencies of 100 and 85.7 percent for Arabica and Robusta, respectively, were achieved with the brush type at 620 rpm, 25 kg/hr and 0.03 l/s brush speed, feed rate and water flow rate, respectively.
