The coffee breeding programme in Kenya: a review of progress made since 1971 and plan of action for the coming years :

Recent progress in breeding and selection for resistance to coffee berry disease (Glomerella cingulata) and coffee rust (Hemileia vastatrix) is discussed, and data are presented on the yield, quality and disease resistance of several cvs and crosses. The results are also summarized of a 4-year spacing trial with several cvs, the highest yields being obtained with a spacing of 6667 trees/ha, and a trial on the effect of tonic sprays of fungicide. Notes are included on seed and pollen storage, methods of vegetative propagation and propagation by hybrid seed, and improved nursery practices
