Root-stock trials in coffee; 1: Studies on sucess in grafting and stionic influence on growth of plants in some graft combinations
A good percentage of success in grafting (95 to 100 per cent) was obtained when arabica (Coffea arabica L.) scions were grafted on the robusta (C. canephora Pierre) Cv. S.274 stock by wedge-cleft technique. Maximun survival of grafted plants (up to 90 per cent) was observed with robusta stock compared to arabica stocks (12 to 57 per cent). Growth of plants was also better in arabica/robusta combinations compared to arabica/arabica combinations. Results indicated a good compatibility between robusta stock and most of the arabica scions
