Exploracao mecanizada da floresta tropical úmida sem babacu

In many aspects, the rational mechanized exploitation of the Humid Tropical Forest is still vinknonw. It was carried out a research on the Tapajos National Forest about mechanization methods for several landscape type in forest without babacu. The trees were oriented cut in relation to the main roads and this process gave more efficiency to the other operations (pulling, carrying and transportation) and it causes less damage to the forest. The optimum operation distance of the skiddes - articulated tractor with 160 HP - is 400 m with an average rentability of 120 m3/day. Also, it was carried out an operational cost survey and it was shown that lumber total cost untill the lumber mill, following the route Flona - Tapajos - Santarem, as Cr 201,00/m3 or US 7,00 (September, 1970) without the roads'cost.
