Safety regulations in the use of pesticides and monitoring of residues in Japan
A nationwide network of pesticide residue analysts for agricultural agencies of 47 prefectures has been organized. Tolerances for 26 pesticides in 53 food items have been set by the Ministry of Health and Welfare of Japan. The Director-General of Environment Agency is responsible for the approval of registration of pesticides. Standards for whithholding of registration of agricultural chemicals have been established for 88 pesticides
