Tolerances for 26 pesticides in 53 food items have been set by the Ministry of Health and Welfare of Japan. The Director-General of Environment Agency is responsible for the approval of registration of pesticides. Standards for whithholding of registration of agricultural chemicals have been established for 88 pesticides
