The scarabaeids (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Scarabaeinae) of the Rio San Lorencito station, Forest Reserve of San Ramon, Costa Rica

Geographic distribution, food preferences, and seasonal abundance are described for 35 species of Scarabaeinae in the Reserva Forestal de San Ramon on the Atlantic slope of the Cordillera de Tilaran, Costa Rica, based on studies conducted between August 1986 and May 1987 using traps baited with human faeces and carrion. Abundant species included Ontherus didymus, Uroxys transversifrons, U. depressifrons and Scatimus quadridentatus on faeces and Coprophanaeus morenoi and Deltochilum mexicanum on carrion. An illustrated key and a brief description of the species are presented.
